Ghana Women’s National football team, the Black Queens, made away with a goal against their Algerian counterparts in the opening match of the African Women’s Cup of Nations.
The Black Queens put smiles on the faces of most Ghanaians as they won the opening game of the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON). The results of the game does not tell how well they performed on the pitch. However, they were able to give the results needed. It may be that the fear of hosting a competition was weighing so much on them that it affected their normal style of play.

In the opening moments of the game both sides played some scrapy football but found their feet as the game progressed. The Algerians were seen to play better since they played more like a team. The Ghanaians however wanted to show more skill and talent than team work. This however, cost them dearly since they failed to deliver on most occasions in the final third. The Algerians kept a good defensive shape and attacking form. The Ghanaians forwards and defenders were too fast and talented for them to handle.
The Black Queens are likely to do much better in their upcoming fixtures since they were able make more attempts on goal. The Algerians, however, made very few attempts on goal and barely made the services of the Ghanaian goal keeper needed.
