Ashanti Gold SC, aka Ashgold has come forth to debunk rumours of any involvement of match-fixing allegation in the Ghana Premier League match against Inter Allies FC which saw them winning 7-0 at the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi, this past Saturday.
Ashgold won the game by 7 goals however, football fanatics believe 3 of their goals, including 2 which were deliberately scored by Inter Allies’ Hashmin Musah prove that some unknown parties connived with BetWay, the title sponsor of team, to set up the horrific match.
However, Ashgold has released a statement denouncing any involvement and that they won the match “through hardwork and team effort”.
In several videos which have circulated online, it can be seen that the centre-back Hashmin Musah has been passed ball and he runs quckily towards their goal post to score on two ocassions.
Three (3) of the goals were scored by Ashanti Golds’ Agyemang Opoku and two (2) by Amos Addai.
Later on a radio interview with Kumasi FM, Musah said
“Before the start of the game at our hotel, I heard that the game has been fixed to end in a 5-1 win in favour of AshantiGold SC. I decided to spoil the planned outcome of the fixture by scoring two own goals”
“I am a Muslim and I don’t support betting because it’s against our doctrines.”
Meanwhile the the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has lodged a complaint to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police and has also reported it to CAF and FIFA.
