GhKings Labels Explicit Songs Following MUSIGA Statement
Accra, Ghana — July 10, 2016 — Ghana’s premier online music store; GhKings® has taken on a new initiative to inform users and make them aware of the explicit songs they access on their website.
On May 26, 2016, the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in a public statement signed by Bice Osei Kuffour, is concerned about the rising incidence of profane lyrics by Ghanaian musicians.
In the statement, also urged the media to circumspect what they make available to the public.
The work that took a bit of time and labour to tag all the songs on GhKings® has finally been successful. We at GhKings® however, believe a ban on profane lyrics would go against the Article 19 in Ghana’s constitution, “Freedom of Speech”.
Following this, GhKings® will warn users of explicit songs with a “Parental Advisory” tag before they access it.
