The lady beside Bullet at the VGMAs, that is one of the defining moments of Wendy Shay’s young career. At an event meant to be a dedication to his late artiste, Bullet saw it as an opportunity to launch new artistes. As such right from the get-go the comparisons with Ebony were always going to be an issue. Wendy Shay though has attempted to differentiate between herself and the late dancehall queen.
“I don’t want people to compare me to Ebony because I am completely different from her. She was a dancehall artiste and I am an afrobeat artiste.

“Despite the fact that we come from the same record label, Rufftown Records, my style is completely different,” she told Showbiz in an interview recently.
What is Wendy Shay’s real name?
Although Wendy Shay, whose real name is Wendy Addo, is not happy with people thinking she is copying Ebony, she said her late label mate was a legend and she is happy at the impact Ebony made before her demise.
“No female artiste has been able to make the impact that Ebony made in less two years and I am so happy for her. Every song she released was a massive hit, from Poison to Maame Hwe, Hustle, Sponsor and Date Ur Fada just to mention a few,” she said.
If there is one regret Wendy Shay has, it is not collaborating with Ebony on a song before she died.

Although she studied nursing in Germany, Wendy Shay says she will always choose music over nursing because music is her first love. “I have always said that nothing will change my mind about music because I love it,” she said.
Asked whether she will move from Rufftown Records should she get a big money offer, she said she is very comfortable with the label and has not intention of moving.
