A fan who was caught snoozing during the first quarter of the Super Bowl on Sunday has been identified as the chairman and CEO of consultancy firm Teneo, Declan Kelly.
Footage posted online showed Kelly in his seat in the lower level of the stands behind the Chiefs end zone sitting with his arms folded and eyes closed.
Kelly was sitting inside Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium where tickets cost an average of $7,000.
A fan who recorded the moment tweeted ‘Somehow, this man is sleeping through the #SuperBowl. We’re still only in the first quarter.’
The video caused a mixture of elation and fury as it began circulating, with some praising Kelly for managing to sleep despite the rowdy atmosphere while others despaired at his attitude.
But others praised Kelly as a ‘hero’, suggesting that he may have had a few too many beers before the game or that he was looking to take a nap away from his kids.
Kelly previously worked as the executive vice president of FTI Consulting, which published the report on the alleged hacking of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.
The Chiefs came from 20-10 down in the fourth quarter to beat the 49ers 31-20 for their first Super Bowl win in more than 50 years and the second in franchise history.
