Yesterday marked an historic day as Otumfuo Osei Tutu II became the first Asantehene to step foot in Akyem land for over 300 years and he did it draped in kente made in 1935.
The Akyems and Asantes aren’t exactly what you’d call bitter enemies. They are two understandably proud states who have both carried on the legacies left to them by their forefathers.

As a result of a war of previous generations, there was some tension between the two states. That is something their current paramount chiefs have all sought to eradicate.
Otumfuo and Osagyefuo Amoatia are known to be friends already but with this visit the two states looked to finally usher in a period of great solidarity.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool, is visiting Kyebi as the Special Guest of Honour at the 75th anniversary of the death of a former Okyenhene, Nana Sir Ofori Atta, who is credited with the transformation of Akyem Abuakwa.
