GhKings brings to you another set of top 20 most popular songs in Ghana for the year 2017.

The year is almost coming to an end and we’ve been thrilled by some of the best and “annoying” songs. This year has already garnered some of the best newcomers like King Promise, KiDi, Darkovibes, Kwesi Arthur and more. The initial list was Top 10 songs in Ghana but we gave ourselves the challenge to assess more songs. This forthcoming year we’ll try with Top 50 and then Top 100 songs, so brace yourself to enjoy more Ghanaian and African music.

The compilation was conducted in order of the most popular song with the highest estimated viral videos by fans on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, and most streamed on GhKings.

1. Taking Over by Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale as well might be the most talked about in 2017. Taking Over is the most popular video watched on YouTube by Shatta Wale at the time of this publication with over 5 million views. Leader of the Shatta Movement Empire the same year received key to the City of Worcester, Massachusetts by Mayor Joseph Petty. He was also informally invited via Twitter by the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo in Pidgin.

According to official YouTube for ArtistsMusic Insight, Shatta Wale since January 1, 2017 till the time of this publication is the most watched artist in Ghana with over 9 million views followed by Sarkodie with 4.5 million views. We will bring you more about this chart later ;)

2. Painkiller by Sarkodie

‘Painkiller’ by Sarkodie featuring Nigeria’s Runtown is the most watched Ghanaian music video on YouTube (2017). At the time of this publish, the video has over 8.4 million views making him also the most watched video by an African Hip-hop artiste.

3. One Corner by Patapaa

Every year comes with a surprise! Patapaa swept everyone off their feet with his hit song ‘One Corner’ in September. The song went viral after the Swedru rapper climbed his first big stage to success in his hometown. The song went ablaze with the dance craze it accompanied. It even attracted celebrities like Stephanie Benson, Afia Schwarzenegger, Kwaku Manu and others sharing their own version of the craze online. ‘One corner’ also crossed borders and also took a storm in Nigeria. Later in September 2017, Kumawood actor-singer Lil Win would record cover a version of this song. The song has also garnered over 20 million views from viral videos by fans on YouTube.

4. Na Wash by Becca

‘Na Wash’ is the most popular song by Becca released in the year 2017. The song and video featuring Nigerian dancehall singer Patoranking is the most the watched Ghanaian music video by a Female as at November 1st with over 8 million views.

5. Mama Boss Papa ( Yimama) by Lil Win

This year, the comedian-singer has had three (3) successful hit songs; Mama Boss Papa featuring Young Chorus, Ladder featuring Odehyia Ba and Nyame Gye Me featuring Top Kay. The video ‘Mama Boss Papa’ has over 1.6 million views on YouTube. Just as hilarious Lil Win is, his song also enjoys massive spins.

6. One Thing by Stonebwoy

‘One Thing’ by Stonebwoy featuring American soulful singer Damaris Joi has over 1.7 million views on YouTube. Later in the same year, Stonebwoy recorded 50,000 estimated crowd at his own headline show in Ashaiman.

7. Ayoo by Shatta Wale

‘Ayoo’ is the second single to follow “Taking Over” hit by Shatta Wale. Shatta was making a “statement” about the deplorable state of the music industry in Ghana and song quickly rose to also top charts. The song follows Shatta’s next most viewed on YouTube with over 3.4 million views this year.

8. Sponsor by Ebony

Ebony Reigns came into the industry very much prepared. She’s released from one banger to the next. The video uploaded on May 31 has over 2.2 million views on YouTube. Later in November, this songstress would release the next hit single which will gather almost 200K views in the first week of release on YouTube.

9. Gboza by Sarkodie

‘Gboza’ is one of the many singles Sarkodie dropped before his 5th studio album “Highest”. In the song, Sarkodie talked about the relative hustle on the street by a regular Ghanaian. The song received massive buzz following its release. Purple pub in Osu had a fair share of the song! Lol.

10. Odo by KiDi

In the year 2017, the 24-year-old Lynx Entertainment singer recorded and dropped two (2) successful hit songs; Odo and Say You Love Me. The song ‘Odo’ gained recognition outside attracting Davido and Mayorkun to jump on the remix. The song was also listed by GhKings – Africa’s Vibrant Music and Lifestyle Portal as number one song played at most Ghanaian weddings.

11. Obi Agyi Obi Girl by Captain Planet

Apart from VVIP coming with some of the “weirdest” song titles, 4X4 follows next. That’s the honest truth!🤐 It was only right Captain Planet would be the only one to be bring about this song “Obi Agyi Obi Girl” featuring Kofi Kinaata. The song also marks the first successful single by Captain Planet as a solo artiste.

12. Total Cheat by Fancy Gadam

The Tamela-based singer has been filling stadiums before his first VGM Award. The “Concrete” singer and Sarkodie performed the song ‘Total Cheat’ to over 20,000 fans at Fancy’s own headline show. The crowd performed along and sang the song word-for-word. ‘Total Cheat’ takes number 12 in our list of top 20.

13. Ladder by Lil Win

Kwadwo Nkansah is the most successful comedian in Ghana to venture into music business. “Ladder” is a copy of an original song by Nigerian singer Agnes Iro titled, ‘Follow The Ladder to Heaven’ which resurfaced as a meme after 10 years.

14. My Baby by Magnom

This is the song which outdoored singer and record producer Magnom as a mainstream artist following his feature with U x Me hitmaker Joey B. The song appeared on Magnom’s “Mature by Nature” EP. The song also jumped to number two (2) on HOT on GhKings for three (3) weeks.

15. Come From Far by Stonebwoy

Stonebwoy had a successful turn with this single ‘Come From Far’ which also enjoyed massive radio plays in and out of Accra. The song also titled “Wogbe Jeke” rules mid-morning shows on radio and you can’t miss it if you also enjoy night life in Accra.

Ebony Reigns is living up to her name just in case you forgot. She is here for the numbers and continues to gather them. ‘Poison’ music video was released on YouTube on January 20 and it has over 1.5 million views. ‘Date Your Father’ is also very popular.

17. Jennifer Lomotey by Kurl Songx

The music video uploaded on July 8 has gathered a million views on YouTube within five (5) months. Kurl Songx is also a product of MTN Hitmaker 5; which he won and his talent speaks for itself. Though the song featured one of Africa’s best emcees Sarkodie, the song was also backed with a good promotion.

18. Angela by Kuami Eugene

Kuami Eugene makes the list of top 20 with the song ‘Angela’ — He’s also a product of MTN Hitmaker Season 5. The singer is signed to Lynx Entertainment, the same music house for KiDi and MzVee. In less than two (2) months, ‘Angela’ has over 1.5 million views on YouTube. The song continues to spread wide and it’s mostly played at every wedding ceremony.

19. Bronya by Wutah

The group which disbanded until now had a successful reunion with their first single ‘Bronya’. The song got many Ghanaians to party for ‘no reason’. The song jumps in to the list of top 20 for making Ghanaian dance even when it wasn’t time for Christmas.

This is the second single released shortly after “Plantain Chips”. The group followed the first single with ‘Over’ after many thought “Plantain Chips” was poor performance. ‘Over’ was produced by KillBeatz.
